As is ironically revealed in the picture, a man, with a table full of leftovers in front of him, is turning down the waitress’s offer to take them away. It is easy to read the implication behind the picture because it is a fairly prevalent issue, i.e., wastage. As for me, it will prove harmful in the long run.

The causes of the phenomenon in the picture are multifold, and the issue itself should be handled with due care. First and foremost, the advance of the science and technology together with the accelerating rate of life has come to impact every one’s concept of consumption, which in turn, contributed to the prevalence of the phenomenon. What’s more, that a large number of people no longer regard thrift as an indispensable virtue for a modern soul is another decisive ground for the status quo. In general, the modern civilization has empowered us to change our lifestyle on an unprecedented scale. It can be beneficial if handled appropriately, but the sword of Damocles otherwise. In this sense, wastage is the side effect of this great era.

The analysis above may reasonably lead to the conclusion that thrift was, is, and should continue to be an indispensable virtue to every modern being. It is advisable for educators at every level to put premium on the phenomenon and adopt an appropriate strategy to address the problem. If the measures should be taken, we would be bound for a promising future.

As is ironically depicted in the figure, at the table sits a young man who has just finished a  rich meal with a beautiful lady, leaving many leftovers on the table. What makes me startled is that the man turns down the proposal of the waitress that he can take the leftovers away. The   implication conveyed by the picture to us is that wastage is a pervasive phenomenon in our life.

So what are the reasons of the phenomenon reflected by the figure? First of all, the most important factor that we have to take into account is that with people’s living standard improving, they can afford to consume more food, which inevitably leads to more resource waste. Besides, importance hasn’t been attached to the improvement of the thrift awareness of the public, especially those who hold the opinion that it doesn’t matter if they waste some food. Last but not least, the lack of severe punishments can, directly or indirectly, lead to wastage. Some people rather miss the point, putting all their energy and passion into purchasing more food after wasting some rather than saving more at the first place.

From what has been mentioned above, it is high time that some effective initiatives were taken to raise the thrift awareness of the public in order to control waste and save more resources.
